The existing 3G football pitch at Longhoughton Community & Sports Centre which has been in use since 2009 is about to be given a makeover.
Contractors will arrive on site on 11 May to remove the existing Synthetic Turf Pitch (STP)(3G) and the sub-base, which has become heavily compacted and poorly drained.
A new sub-base and added Shockpad (extends life of the STP) will be installed before a completely new STP is set in place. The work is expected to take up to 6 weeks, subject to weather conditions. Contractors and their assorted equipment will be on site and are expected to work between 08:00 and 17:00 Monday to Friday.
The old STP materials will be removed by the contractors and will go to their in-house specialist recycling centre to be converted for other uses.
The timing for completion should ensure that the pitch is ready for use for pre-season training.
Raising the funds to carry out this refurbishment programme has been a long and difficult process but we are now ready to go. The Trustees would like to express their very sincere thanks to the Garfield Weston Trust, Northumberland Estates, Football Foundation and Royal Air Force Central Fund for their much valued contributions towards the cost of the refurbishment.
